Dubai World Cup
Invasor Wins the Six-Million-Dollar Race

The Argentinean stallion Invasor lived up to his role as favourite and won the world’s dearest horserace in Dubai. He dominated the competition on the desert course “Nad Al Sheba” in a field of only six starters and won six million in prize money in the main race on 31 March 2007.

Carrying the jockey Fernando Jara, Invasor maintained his position as the world’s number one galloper and can look back on a record of 11 wins out of 12 races. Premium Tap and Bullish Luck took second and third place respectively and the only German starter in any of the six main races was Quijano from the Fährhof stud farm with the jockey Andrasch Starke. After a spell in second place, he broke down completely at the end and eventually finished outside the prize money in seventh place. A total of 21 million US dollars were awarded as prize money during the races – another of the ambitious Al Maktoum’s records – the ruling family in Dubai. Known for its extravagance, the Emirate is now planning a luxury horse city near the current race course. Besides race courses, “Meydan Horse City” will also accommodate deluxe stables, hotels, museums, shopping centres and restaurants. The multi-million dollar project is due to be inaugurated during the 2010 Dubai World Cup and, in doing so, Dubai is also looking to become number one in equestrian sports and leave the competition in the dust.
